Pixar made history with an ambitious project, many thought was impossible to do… they proved the impossible is possible and made the world’s first full length computer generated film (CGI for short), and the result was universal, everybody loved ‘Toy Story’, and rightfully so.

 

Can anyone imagine another CGI film being the first, if ‘Toy Story’ wasn’t created?

 

I can’t, and I’m glad, as ‘Toy Story’ is a classic, ever since it debuted in theatres, nearly 20 years ago, back in 1995 winning over audiences with its out of this world computer generated imagery, a new norm for animation in general for moviegoers today.

 

‘Toy Story’ gave birth to two animation icons, Woody and Buzz Lightyear, which are remembered fondly, in the same league with DreamWorks’ mascot Shrek.

 

The story behind ‘Toy Story’ follows Woody’s journey, a cowboy who has a problem with his owner’s, Andy’s, new toy, a space ranger named Buzz Lightyear. One knows his a toy, the other, well… knows he fights crime around galaxies to defeat the evil Emperor Zurg. So basically, his naive and clueless on his identity, only behind an identity that he thinks is real.

 

The two characters work perfectly, two opposites, from two different eras. Woody from a Western era, and Buzz, the sci-fi craze which made productions such as ‘Star Trek’ and ‘Star Wars’ so uberly popular. These two eras clash, and Pixar pulls it off magnificently. The other supporting characters are just as great as the two leading toys. Rex, Mr. Potato Head, Bo Peep, Slinky Dog, Hamm and the rest have character traits and personality which make them fun and relatable, just as much as the film’s two leading stars.

 

Oh, and you may find some references from popular classic films, 'The Wizard of Oz' rings a bell.

 

From the writing, to the animation, to the characters and to the voice work, ‘Toy Story’ has lived on through time, aging gracefully, through many fans and audiences hearts which make these characters, and this film, live on “To Infinity and Beyond”.
