‘The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe’ is a 2005 action adventure, directed by Andrew Adamson, is an adaption of the C.S. Lewis book of the same name, and stars William Moseley (Peter) Georgie Henley (Lucy) Skandar Keynes (Edmund) and Anna Popplewell (Susan).

 

The film centres around the Pevenise children, as they have been evacuated to the country side during World War II, as it is safer for children to live where the Germans are not bombing. The children soon discover an old, wooden wardrobe, which transports them to the magical world of Narnia.

 

The first thing that I really enjoyed about this movie is the music and score done by Harry Gregson-Williams. The score added a nice feeling inside, at the start of the movie, and as the movie continued, the score continued to make me feel like I was part of the action. Music is a big thing for me, if you can nail the music, then you are halfway there, to making a wonderful movie.

 

I have not read the books, but I am very well aware of C.S.Lewis intentions while writing this book and the message comes through the same within the movie. Given that it is a fantasy I was not going to nit-pick throughout the movie saying beavers cannot talk etc., I can accept that, that is a part of the story and let it slide; however what I cannot let go is that apparently, while in Narnia, the children are not the least bit susceptible to the cold. Let me explain. There is a scene where Peter, Lucy and Susan are crossing the thawing river, Boom. Next minute the children are in the water, and get out unscathed, with no apparent signs of hypothermia, I am not a doctor, but I am pretty sure, if you are going to be placed into freezing cold waters, you are going to suffer some sort of trauma, (If I do however get corrected on this point ie. someone tells me with a proper source that a human can survive for a little bit and no injuries than I will disregard this from the review as I said I am not a doctor but I still felt I needed to address this).

The movie, has everything in it that a great movie should have, great story, great characters developed, extremely good casting - I give my applauds to Liam Neeson (Aslan) and Tilda Swinton (The White Witch), there was something about the two of them that just made this movie go off with a bang.

 

Overall I really loved this movie, and definitely stood up to the 5 or 6 times I saw it when it come out in 2005. It has everything I could ask for in a fantasy movie. Aside from the lack of biology issues. If you have not seen this movie before I recommend you go and see it its worth your time!
