The Boy in the Striped Pajamas (2009)

TJ's Review

This filmed is based around the Holocaust and WW2 era. Although mostly on the holocaust than WW2 itself but I'll just put WW2 and the Holocaust in the same category since they both happened at the same time.

Anyway back to the movie.

This film is based on an innocent young German boy who didn't even know that such thing as the holocaust was happening right in his own home. As you wouldn't as young child.

The movie depicts a lot of violence but not a lot to make you cringe which is good for viewers who are sensitive to this topic as I know many people are. There are quite a bit of frightening scenes but it is still okay to watch, there isn't any swearing only words such as 'Hell', 'Damn' which aren't curse words in my opinion but the word 'Jew' was used a fair bit which was an insult in those times. I wouldn't recommend this movie to someone who doesn't know anything about the holocaust. Unless they know quite some knowledge or a lot about that era then I would recommend, but I believe that a solid background of the holocaust era is essential to understand most parts of the film.

You may recognize a face in the film if you are a 'Harry Potter' fan and have watched all the movies and a few new faces that I never seen before.

The acting was so real that it made me believe that the movie was a true story (the author said in the book which the movie is based on that it is fictional, but the whole holocaust era was real).

But overall I believe that this movie isn't for everyone. As there are many people still out there who are still very sensitive about the holocaust and I respect that, as the holocaust is such a sensitive subject to talk, learn, read and even watch such movies and documentaries. But it does give you some overview of being an young German child going through the events and how the events unfolded.
