Pixar's 14th feature film and it's a prequel to the 2001 hit film 'Monsters, Inc.'. 12 years later we are now going back in time to when Mike and Sulley attended University at the prestigious 'Monsters University', which is the same title as the movie.
Monsters University tells the story of when Mike and Sulley were rivals, and that's as much as I'll say.
Monsters University is very hilarious, there's one scene in the movie that made me laugh out loud, and no one else was. Awkward. But there are a few jokes that do seem flat to me, but there are more that works then the ones that don't.
The story doesn't seem as original as the first film, but it does have its surprises.
The animation is Pixar's best, it is extremely beautiful, like other Pixar productions, and very finely detailed. Monsters University is a beautiful and finely detailed film, with plenty of laughs and a nice welcome return to the monster world of Mike and Sulley.
If you're a fan of Monsters, Inc., like me, or a fan of Pixar's other works, then you will absolutely have a great time with this one.
The short film 'The Blue Umberella' is also a very cute, very sweet little short with breathtaking animation.

I wasn't going to write a review for this because Pixar's films are the reason I love movies and critiquing them is like self-murder. But I think that's all the more reason why I should express how much I enjoyed Monsters University.
This is Pixar's best film since Toy Story 3 and better than many of their earlier efforts, including Monsters Inc.
Like the very best Pixar efforts, there is deep emotion woven throughout MU's story, following Mike's dream of becoming a scarer. The first two acts are fast paced and properly comedic (there's also nostalgic moments for those like me who are fond of the original) and there are many funny moments. What matters though is that emotion and by showing how adamant Mike is of achieving his goal in those first acts, the ultimate revelation and plot twist in the final act becomes so much more powerful.
Yes it does use a well-worn genre to convey this message, the college movie, but Pixar does it best.
It's always a good sign when a movie makes you smile the whole way through and that's what Monsters University did for me.
