‘Jupiter Ascending’ is the latest film directed by The Wachowskis, known for mainly ‘The Matrix’ (which is a great film).

 

The story follows as Jupiter (Mila Kunis) is born on Earth and about many years later she is a cleaner, because her family cleans things for wealthy people. But, Jupiter wants a telescope, because her father loved exploring the solar system through telescopes, even though she wasn’t born then, and bids on one on an auction site. Despite Jupiter having no money, she sells her eggs for cash, so she can get her telescope. But, all hell breaks loose and is saved by galactic hunter Caine Wise (Channing Tatum). What Jupiter doesn’t know yet, she is part of a bigger world in outer space. Best synopsis ever!

 

From what you can judge by my plot summary, this film is a complicated mess. The film does have some potential hidden, but it is drowned out by incohesive plot points, which most end up going nowhere in the long-term, only to fill up the film’s slightly over 2 hour runtime.

 

‘Jupiter Ascending’ was supposed to be released last July, but was delayed to work on the effects of the film, and rightfully so, because visually the film is impressive, along with fantastic costumes and an entertaining score. Sadly, that’s all the positives I can give to this film.

 

While the acting is fine, Mila Kunis and Channing Tatum do their best to work through the script, unfortunately the film is suffered through cheesy dialogue, which at times sound like it came directly from ‘Twilight’. Didn’t thought I’d make that comparison with this film.

 

‘Jupiter Ascending’ is like ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’, but without the fun, without the story and without the character development from that enjoyable Marvel film... all you get with ‘Jupiter’ are some cool looking action sci-fi sequences every now and then, filled with some really cool costuming and a great score.
