Well done DreamWorks. Well done.

 

Probably the best DreamWorks Animation movie I’ve seen since ‘Shrek’ and the most enjoyable since ‘Kung Fu Panda’.

 

It’s been 4 years since the release of ‘How to Train Your Dragon’, and I have never seen the film up to this point. I’ve seen bits and pieces, but never the whole film. What better timing for the sequel’s release to check out the original and first instalment of the ‘Dragon’ franchise.

 

The film is set in the medieval times where Hiccup is always a joke around his kingdom and an embarrassment to his father. While he isn’t buff, like the other Vikings, he makes up for it with his brain, as he is smart and highly knowledgeable. After trying to capture a dragon, a Night Fury to be precise, he discovers something amazing, which will turn the whole island upside down on everything they know about dragons.

 

I love the main characters interaction between Hiccup and Toothless, with other supporting characters like Hiccup’s father and Astrid, also strong developed characters. My only complaint, I didn’t really care much for the other side characters, but they do offer jokes and do have their moments in the film.

 

What surprised me the most that there was no pop culture references and gags for a DreamWorks film, which I like. As I did like them in ‘Shrek’, other films from DreamWorks just kept offering pop culture jokes in a lot of their other CGI animated productions, so I was happy to not see any of these in this incredible film.

 

‘How to Train Your Dragon’ offers some amazing characters, a great story, a fun and engaging animated film with some impressive and at times, beautiful animation, which makes this film a surprisingly exciting film which will be hard to disappoint.

 

‘Dragon’ soars for a great movie viewing experience.
