Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004)

Daniel's Review

The best ‘Harry Potter’ movie ever… until ‘Deathly Hallows: Part 2’, but that’s a review for another day.

‘Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban’ is a smart and imaginative follow-up to the first two ‘Harry Potter’ films.

Under a new direction, directed by Alfonso Cuaron (director of this year's Gravity), this sequel is more creative with its magical creatures such as the frightening Dementors and the heart-warming Buckbeak, visual effects wise are the best they’ve ever been in this popular franchise.

The writing is very smart with heaps of twists I never saw coming when I first watched this movie a decade ago on my birthday.

Yeah, it was released on my birthday. That made me happy.

‘Prisoner of Azkaban’ sort of works as this thriller but also as a fantastic fantasy adventure film that impresses with its visual effects, smart writing and terrific acting. This stands as one of the franchise’s best.

And it also has my favourite spell in the franchise.

“Expecto Patronum”.
