Every Friday, throughout January and February, I’ll be reviewing one movie in the highest grossing film franchise of all-time ‘Harry Potter’.

 

This is the film franchise I grew up watching and I think it’s my generation’s ‘Star Wars’, another franchise a lot of people grew up watching and have many respects for, that’s how I call the ‘Harry Potter’ franchise as both franchises are extremely popular in terms of fans and have their own universes that people establish them as part of the franchise.

 

Lightsabers = ‘Star Wars’.

 

Magic wands = ‘Harry Potter’.

 

I have never heard of ‘Harry Potter’ before I saw the film in theatres in the month of December 2001. When I went out of the cinema, I thought it was the best movie I have ever seen, ever.

 

Also, at the time, the first film became the second highest grossing movie ever with $974 million, it currently stands, as of writing this review, as the 19th highest grossing movie ever. ‘Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone’, or in the U.S. known as ‘Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone’, became the reason why I am such a movie fan that I am today, true story. It’s also why I’m pursuing an interest become a filmmaker all because of this one film and has become my favourite still to this day for opening the world of movies to me and I knew that’s what I wanted to do when I grew up was to make movies.

 

The characters are likeable and make you end up hoping they can save the day as these underdog heroes. You know all the characters, Harry, Ron, Hermione, Malfoy, Hagrid, Dumbledore, etc. Anyone can relate to these characters whether they are funny, Hagrid, or wanting to fit in and be a part of a family, Harry. I think these characters are so well written that anyone can relate to these characters.

 

The story is strong and offer just the right amounts of comedy and drama for this film to be taken as a fun and serious movie.

 

The visual effects, although some now look extremely outdated now, still look pretty amazing, like the three-headed dogs, the Quidditch match, too bad they are not real, sad face, and Voldemort.

 

Overall, this movie is written very well, directed very well, the characters are likeable, the visual effects still look as great as they did back in 2001 which makes this film very imaginative and the movie is still entertaining all these years later as it is still one of my favourite films of all-time. If you haven’t seen ‘Philosopher’s Stone’ or ‘Sorcerer’s Stone’ yet, it is highly recommended.

 

An instant classic.
