Cinderella (2015)

Daniel's Review

Disney is back with another re-imagining of one of their favourite and popular animated films.

We’ve had ‘Alice in Wonderland’ and ‘Maleficent’, and even something non-animated with ‘Oz: The Great and Powerful’. All three films were somewhat of a disappointment, to say the least. Thankfully, ‘Cinderella’ avoids disappointment, and instead is a very pleasing and entertaining retelling of the 1950 animated film, with the same name.

Usually, this is when I talk about the story of the film, but in doing so will spoil the film, so I’ll just say this. The film is about a girl named Ella, who works hard at being her stepmother’s servant, until she meets a prince, and decides whether she should go to the ball, or not.

The acting, for the most part, is actually really great. Lily James is perfectly cast as Ella and brings a lot of charm to her performance. Cate Blanchett is terrifically amazing as the step mother, Lady Tremaine, and even Helena Bonham Carter and Richard Madden are also wonderfully cast, bringing fun and grace to their respectable roles.

While the story is simple, it is not without a doubt still fun to watch, as the set pieces are ravishingly detailed, the costumes are beautiful and the film has loads of hilarious gags and jokes that many adults and parents can enjoy, along with the kids.

Disney has put a lot of effort into this version of ‘Cinderella’, and it shows, being a magical, joyful ride that is entertaining, as well as emotional.

Oh, and there’s a fun entertaining short called ‘Frozen Fever’ that plays before the film.
