Back to the Future (1985)

Daniel's Review

Crank out that DeLorean, because where we’re going, we don’t need roads, as we are going back in time with the most memorable time travel flick ever produced ‘Back to the Future’ – and on this day Marty traveled to the future of the year 2015, so to celebrate 'Back to the Future' Day (it's now an official holiday - or so I wish) we are taking a look back at the film that started it all.

Directed by Robert Zemeckis, ‘Back to the Future’ is about a high school student named Marty McFly, who loves to rock. However, when scientist Doc Brown asks Marty to record his latest experiment, he creates the impossible, a time machine, made entirely out of a DeLorean. But when Marty accidentally gets taken back in time, he must enlist the help of Doc Brown, a slightly younger version of Doc, to get Marty back home, before he is entirely erased from existence, from interacting with his parents, who are the same age as Marty.

Where do I start with this one? ‘Back to the Future’ has witty, smart writing with so much care towards these characters, and twists you don’t expect coming.

The cast is perfect in their respectable roles, with praises towards the five main protagonists of Michael J. Fox, Christopher Lloyd, Lea Thompson, Crispin Glover and Thomas F. Wilson – acting wonderfully well together.

The visual effects still hold up really well, even today’s standards, as the film offers both practical and special effects that have aged tremendously, much to the likes of ‘Jurassic Park’.

The score is fantastic and the songs are catchy and memorable. Still love "Earth Angel".

All of these things is what makes ‘Back to the Future’ a perfect family film and one of my all-time favourites.

‘Back to the Future’ is ahead of its time.

Rob's Review

‘Back to the Future’ is a 1985 sci-fi movie directed by Robert Zemeckis and stars Michael J. Fox, and Christopher Lloyd.

It follows 17 year old Marty Mcfly as he escapes terrorists in a time travelling Delorean and ends up getting stuck in 1955, where he changes the course of his own existence.

I really love this movie; time travel, humour, a DeLorean DMC-12; there is not much I did not like about the movie. The acting was good and the prosthetics were amazing, considering the time of release and the budget this movie had.

The story was engaging enough in some aspects, and most definitely kept me entertained.

However, the only thing that let this movie down was, in some place, the movie was slow-paced and I felt the action could have been done better, but in no means does this make the movie boring or unenjoyable, I still loved it but not a movie I can watch over and over again on a loop, unlike like the sequel.
