With this week's release of the reboot 'Fantastic Four', scheduled for release this Thursday, here are Everything Film's ranking of the superhero origin films, reviewed thus far.

Ranking Films: Superhero Origins

The Incredibles (2004)

Animation masterhouse Pixar made the riskiest move to make an original superhero film mixed with Pixar's incredible computer animation; not only that, it is the studio's first PG rated film. Unlike 'Toy Story' that appealed to kids, but also has the heartwarming story of childhood and friendship that appeal to adults, 'The Incredibles' is mostly adult, but has the homour that appeals to kids. 'The Incredibles' is a masterfully crafted film that celebrates all genres of superhero themes and stories and combining it into one of the best superhero films ever.

Big Hero 6 (2014)

Just what 'The Incredibles' did ten years ago, Walt Disney Animation Studios decided to make a superhero computer animated film, this time based upon a Marvel property, which resulted as a great action-packed film, perfect for the whole family "filled with laughs, adventure, action and emotional depth to the story and these characters that makes â€˜Big Hero 6’ a continue winning triumph from Walt Disney Animation Studios" that Daniel states.

Guardians of the Galaxy (2014)

Marvel has had a great 2014 with not one, but two films in the top 10 highest rated films of the year. 'Guardians of the Galaxy' is a homerun filled with humour and action-packed sci-fi scenes that feel like they belong to 'Star Wars'. Nic states that 'Guardians of the Galaxy' is "funny, exciting and fresh" and "just a big ball of fun."

Ant-Man (2015)

Despite the troubled and rocky road to production, 'Ant-Man' had many fans worried, however, as Nic states it "'Ant-Man' is something of a marvel". With a compelling performance by Michael Douglas and a likeable performance by Paul Rudd, the cast is solid, even for Marvel standards. 'Ant-Man' fits perfectly in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, becoming one of Marvel's funniest and best movies in the MCU overall, not just phase two. Daniel states that "‘Ant-Man’ is full of fun, it’s a comedy mixed with a heist film that has superhero elements spliced in between. â€˜Ant-Man’ is a huge win for a small hero".

X-Men (2000)

Despite being a very short movie for the superhero genre (running at 104 minutes), 'X-Men' started the modern post-2000 superhero craze, and at the time was only competing against 'Spider-Man' and 'The Incredibles'. 'X-Men' is a nice introduction to the mutant world with Daniel stating that it is full of "suspense, action, plenty of character development and very emotional. This film is a true testament to how comic adaptions are done right".

Kick-Ass (2010)

A very underated film, 'Kick-Ass' is an R-rated superhero film, that is very violent and extremely hilarous, pushing the boundaries of superhero films, making it stand-out against its competition. Daniel states that 'Kick-Ass' is "nice to see something different in a superhero film, where the lead character Dave has no super powers, his inspiration is "How come no one has tried to being a superhero?"."

Man of Steel (2013)

When 'Man of Steel' was first released in theatres, audiences were excited by the trailers offerring, what we were hoping, to be a great origin film based upon Superman, but the reactions to the film were mixed, ranging from audiences liking it or hating it. Despite the script and story problems, 'Man of Steel' has a stellar cast and some good use of visual effects, however Nic says that even the action can become very "predictable and familiar to previous superhero movies. And the climax! Way too long and repetitive".

Fantastic Four (2015)

The 'Fantastic Four' reboot had so much potential, but ended up as a massive disapointment, from the comic book's fans, audiences and critics alike. The cast is likeable, but their characters are underdeveloped, so-so visuals, a mediocre screenplay and a disjointed flow in the film's narrative from using over-the-top timejumping. Daniel states "‘Fantastic Four’ is not so fantastic, or fun for that matter. It could have been so fantastic".
